Job Description

As a Render Engineering Team Lead, you will build the future of our rendering system—the cornerstone of all our products—while also leading and growing the engineers who deliver it. Your work will directly impact performance, quality, and user experience across our technologies. You’ll guide the team in optimizing our video processing pipeline, enabling low-latency streaming, and pushing the boundaries of audio and video processing—while still contributing hands-on to the most important technical challenges.We’re looking for a leader who loves solving hard problems, is passionate about gaming and video technologies, and thrives in fast-paced, innovative environments. You’ll bring strong fundamentals in graphics APIs, streaming, and media processing, and you’ll be ready to coach others to do the same.What you’ll doLead a small team of render engineers: set direction, align on priorities, and ensure high-quality execution.Stay hands-on technically: design and implement key systems, tackle complex performance issues, and review critical changes.Oversee technical strategy for rendering, media pipelines, and platform performance across products.Own people leadership responsibilities, including:Regular 1:1s, coaching, and career developmentAnnual performance reviews (and feedback cycles as needed)Hiring participation and team growth planningBuilding a healthy team culture with clear expectations and accountabilityPartner cross-functionally with product and engineering stakeholders to balance roadmap delivery with long-term technical health.We want people whoUnderstand the demands of real-time rendering and performance optimization.Have extensive experience with multi-threaded rendering and optimizing complex systems.Are proficient in low-level graphics APIs such as OpenGL, Metal, and DirectX, and can guide others in using them effectively.Write C++ as a primary language with deep expertise and practical judgment.Are familiar with video streaming technologies and can contribute to optimizing pipelines for low-latency processing.Can communicate clearly, give actionable feedback, and make good tradeoffs under constraints.Have an understanding of embedded programming and hardware-aware optimization.Our best leaders will haveAptitude to lead even when not the technical expertA strong problem-solving mindset: able to diagnose bottlenecks and coach others through root-cause analysis.A passion for building efficient, reliable, scalable systems—and for building teams that can sustain and evolve those systems over time.Originally posted on Himalayas
